About Me

In 2007, I was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at 36 years old.  It was a shock, to say the least. However, I would say the worst part was the limited education I received as to how to care for myself when I left the hospital. I got needles, insulin and a pat on the back - "Good luck!"

The one thing I knew from the beginning was that I would not let being a diabetic stop me from doing the things I loved and had done my entire life - cycling, mountain biking, camping - just being outside and enjoying all that nature has to offer.

Over the past 12 years, I've learned a great deal about being a diabetic and living an active lifestyle - a lot through trial and error and some from working with the JDRF Ride department for 10 years which introduced me to hundreds of diabetics and thousands of supporters riding to end T1D.

My love for cycling has never stopped. I've be racing cyclocross, mountain, road and track bikes since the mid '80s and I recently began long-distance endurance races. As I stare down reaching the big 5-0, I've realized I want to conquer the Tour Divide that I have talked about for years - a self-supported race that runs from the Canadian border to the Mexico border along the continental divide.

Join me on my journey as I train and prepare for the hardest endurance ride of my life. Want to reach out? Contact me.
